***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode originally aired on YouTube on February 14th 2024.  Keeping up with our thematic traditions we ran with a new Valentine’s Day inspired record.  Last year we went with a falling in love / having a crush theme so this time around we wanted to review a record that supports the opposite side of the coin, the heart ache, love sick side.  Psycho Realm’s “Love From The Sick Side” gives us not only that, but a chance to cover a group that wasn’t on that mega star level, reminding our listeners that we will cover any Hip-Hop or rap music adjacent song, regardless of commercial success so long as we like the music or think it would make for a good episode.  As always, we ask that you hit the like button, follow our podcast, leave a comment and review of the show and share this with other Hip-Hop heads in your life.  Thanks again for the continued support from our listeners and we plan to repay y’all by getting you involved in future episodes soon!

***EDITOR’S NOTES***this episode first released on YouTube on January 10th 2024.  This marks the swcond installment to our annual Happy Wu Year episodes.  We decided to branch out from the main line up and give one of our favorite, more underground, jams a try.  This opened the gates to consider future not quite as mainstream as other artist we’ve highlighted on the show.  But this one is very funny and filled with lots of jewels about the song and the album its feature on, The Swarm.  By the end of our first quarter, one of the artists from the group, Christ Bearer, heard snippets of the review and shared props and tagged others into the posts.  It was super legit as we’ve been listening to him and his crew for quite some time!  As always, please like, subscribe, follow, comment and review our podcast then share it with other Hip-Hop heads in your life!  One Love,

***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode originally aired on YouTube on December 13th 2023.  Another holiday inspired episode for Remember The Record with Christmas right around the corner we decided to go with the Carol of the Bells flow inspired Shoot ‘Em Up by Nas.  This marks the first episode where we switched locations from Johnny Warbux’s spot to Kalashnikov Red’s to enhance the visual aesthetic of the show and for ease of Johnny’s family as well.  We fix the audio levels of the musical backdrop this go round and continue trying to enhance the quality of the listening experience.  We hope y’all enjoy the show and as usual, ask that you follow, rank & review our show as well as share it with other Hip-Hop heads in your life.

EP12 - Funkdoobiest: Rock On

Monday Jun 17, 2024

Monday Jun 17, 2024

***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode originally aired on YouTube on November 7th, 2023.   Another seasonally thematic episode, in honor of both Kalashnikov’s indigenous roots and November being American Indian Heritage Month, we agreed to do an episode on Funkdoobiest and their west coast classic “Rock On”.  This would be considered our first episode diving into a song that isn’t as widely popular on the mainstream circuit and would be more par for the course for several episodes until later in the first quarter of 2024.  Also, as we had just recently starting backdrop music to the show, we acknowledged that the instrumental was a touch too loud on the episode and moving forward made a permanent adjustment to the volume so it was easier to listen to us speak on the topic for future episodes.  We hope you enjoy this deep cut episode and continue to follow us along the development of the show as changes continue to grow in the next few episodes to come.

***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode originally aired on YouTube on September 8th 2023.  At this point in our show we created a multiple 8.0-8.4 series that isn’t complete by the time of this stream release.  We’ll revisit it in the new year.  We also finally corrected the episode listings here by titling it episode 10.  Our first episode (currently only available on YouTube) was marked as a Pilot, however, Johnny Warbux kept referring to each episode as an installment so episode 1 was our 2nd installment and so on.  We finally just corrected this on all fronts to match all releases.  So it may look like we’ve skipped an episode here, but the reality is, we just matched the installment number with the release number.  This is the first episode where we began releasing a short description of the video on YouTube as well as promotional hashtags and time stamps!  This episode was also controversially released around the time that the “slap heard around the world” occurred between Will Smith and Chris Rock.  We wanted to do an end of summer song where we could tie in the fall season ahead and The Fresh Prince’s catalog was perfect for that transition as we explain in the show.  We hope you enjoy the show for what it is focused on, the love of this song and the musical legacy/impact this record had/has on the globe.  Once again, please rate and review this show on whatever streaming platform you’re enjoying it on and share it with other Hip-Hop heads you know in your life.

This time, we're diving into the iconic hit "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, released on May 20th, 1991. We reminisce about our recent listening habits, including DJ Muggs' new Soul Assassins album and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's timeless tracks. The episode also explores the lasting impact of Will Smith on hip-hop, his inspiring journey, and the cultural significance of "Summertime." We delve into the song's creation, its chart-topping success, and the seamless blend of R&B and hip-hop that defines it.
Join us as we celebrate the enduring legacy of Will Smith, his contributions to the genre, and why "Summertime" remains a must-listen track every year. ***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode was originally released on YouTube on August 7th 2023.  Keeping in the current groove of the time, K Red made a new beat for the episode inspired by Passing me By and we continued to showcase pictures for the video to spice up the viewing.  During the final editing, Red also played around with a few transitional changes including the show logo at the beginning and ending.  Gone was the recently added “theme song” to save time for more show content.  Warbux also mistakingly declares this episode as the 9th installment of the show, when it was in fact, the 7th.  Let’s just say that maybe before the show, Quinton was on his way and everything was ok!
We hope you enjoy the episode and continue to ask y’all to please rank and review our show, like the episodes and share them with other Hip-Hop fans in your life!

***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode originally aired on YouTube on May 8th 2023.  This was the first time we intentionally connected the shows by affiliation as Queen Latifah mentored and introduced the world to Naughty By Nature.  This was also our first time trying to add thematic music to the show including a unique intro theme as well as a beat inspired by the song discussed on the episode.  Both produced by Kalashnikov Red, initially, we planned to let the inspired track play only during The Stats portion of the show and of course, we managed to mess it up!  So we tried to do it live during the recording and when we activated the music, it was so loud, it drowned us out entirely (which we weren’t able to hear & realize until we went to mix down the final product).  So we ended up mixing ourselves into the existing episode “from the future” with the music premixed down and redoing (luckily, just) the entire stats section of the show.  Trying to play like everything we were saying was made up on the spot and trying to give organic “natural” reactions was our finest moments in acting, but we managed to pull off a show that listeners outside of us saying anything about it, had no clue what had happened.  Also, we began adding pictures to the YouTube videos which we also were loading up live during the show.  We spent too much time fiddling with the screen and talking about us putting the photos up where we learned fairly quickly we needed to try to do something different in future shows.  This is another episode where you really see us getting comfortable in our roles and where we want to take the show.  As we begin to have more fun making the show, the more positive responses we were getting by the people.  So there’s a lot of laughter and clowning jabs at each other during this one.  We hope you enjoy the episode and continue to ask y’all to please rank and review our show, like the episodes and share them with other Hip-Hop fans in your life.  We’re slowly growing the IG page as well so to interact with us and get more RTR content, be sure to check us out on InstaGram @RememberTheRecord
Peace to everyone who’s been rocking with us day one and be sure to peep our YouTube Video Podcast, The Rapper’s Corner, as well.

***EDITOR’S NOTES***
This episode was originally aired on YouTube on March 15th 2023.  This was another thematically chosen episode as we went with the proudly Irish, House of Pain, in correlation with St. Patrick’s Day.  We were still trying to find our footing for the location of the show as we revisited Johnny Warbux’s home displaying the extremely Hip-Hop themed kid’s room as their video backdrop once again (that was sarcastic).  We chose to use a more close up view to hide as much of the background as possible. This is the first episode where we started introducing pictures to the YouTube videos to add some personality to the experience.  At this point we still weren’t making our own show notes.
